A certification tells you exactly what was tested.

The essentials to understand before comparing a single model.

What a newborn needs

A newborn needs a stroller setup that can support them before they can sit up: a bassinet, a seat that truly reclines flat, or a compatible infant car seat. Check what is included, what needs an adapter, and the full price of the setup you would actually use.

The chemicals tracked here

PFAS are water- and stain-repellent chemicals often called forever chemicals. Flame retardants are chemicals commonly added to foam or fabric to meet flammability rules. This site shows the evidence for each question instead of guessing from a certification.

What certifications do and do not cover

GREENGUARD Gold tests how much a product emits into indoor air. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 tests the textile itself for a long list of substances. Neither certification covers every part of a stroller, or every chemical.

Why certificationsThe FTC's Green Guides caution marketers against broad, unqualified claims that a product is "environmentally friendly" or "eco-friendly," because a brand can rarely back up every reasonable way a shopper might read a claim like that.

What each one tests

Checks, and misses.

Reading what a certification misses is usually more useful than counting how many a stroller carries, which is why the gaps sit beside the answers rather than being totalled into a number.

GREENGUARD Gold

airborne emissions

ChecksHow much chemical the product evaporates into the air, against limits set for children. Independently tested and renewable.
MissesPFAS, flame retardants, heavy metals and phthalates, which are mostly not airborne. The per-model answer distinguishes an independent certification from a brand statement.

OEKO-TEX Standard 100

the fabric itself

ChecksThe fabric itself, against a long list of harmful substances including some PFAS, flame retardants, heavy metals and formaldehyde.
MissesNon-textile parts: frame finishes, foam padding, plastics. The per-model answer distinguishes an independent certification from a brand statement.

PFAS

water and stain repellents

Checks"Forever chemicals" that make fabric shed water and stains. They do not break down in the body; some are linked to cancer and immune effects.
MissesNo stroller in this category has independent lab confirmation, so a PFAS-free answer here is the brand's own statement.

Flame retardants

usually in the foam

ChecksChemicals added to foam and fabric so products meet flammability rules. Several are linked to hormone disruption.
MissesUsually in the padding rather than the outer fabric, and again a brand statement rather than a lab result.

How we chose these strollers

Every certified stroller we could find.

A stroller counts only when the whole assembled stroller - not a seat fabric, not a foam insert, not a recycled-content accessory - holds a checkable third-party certificate against a published chemical-safety standard. OEKO-TEX, GOTS, bluesign, CertiPUR-US and the Global Recycled Standard certify a material, not the stroller, no matter how prominently a brand markets the claim on the product page.

UL GREENGUARD Gold (via SPOT)

Kept

Public database, published chemical-emissions standard, and the certified unit is the whole assembled stroller. The only certifier that has produced a certified stroller so far.

Cradle to Cradle Certified

Kept, none found

A whole-product, multi-attribute standard whose registry was fully searched by category term and by all 30 brand names. No certified stroller found, and its own category list has no juvenile-hardgoods group a stroller could sit in.

MADE SAFE

Kept, none found

A whole-product, health-focused standard whose catalog was fully searched by category term and by all 30 brand names. No certified stroller found, and its own collection list has no stroller or juvenile-hardgoods category.

OEKO-TEX Standard 100

Rejected

Certifies the fabric, never the assembled stroller.

GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard)

Rejected

Scope is textile fibre products; furniture and products with electronic components, including an assembled stroller, are explicitly excluded.

bluesign

Rejected

A process certification for textile and chemical inputs; juvenile hardgoods like strollers are not a listed finished-product category.

CertiPUR-US

Rejected

Certifies foam only, never the assembled stroller.

Global Recycled Standard

Rejected

A recycled-content textile standard that certifies the material or supply chain, never the assembled stroller.

Glossary

PFAS

A large family of water- and stain-repellent chemicals that persist in the environment. A PFAS-free entry here says what the recorded source established, not what a certification implies.

Flame retardants

Chemicals added to materials such as foam or fabric to meet flammability rules. They can be in padding rather than the outer fabric.

GREENGUARD Gold

A certification for low chemical emissions into indoor air, with limits intended for sensitive settings such as schools and healthcare spaces. It does not test every chemical in every part.

OEKO-TEX Standard 100

A textile certification that tests the fabric for a long list of harmful substances. It does not cover non-textile stroller parts such as the frame, plastics, or foam.

Bassinet

A flat, lie-flat stroller attachment for a newborn. Whether it is included or sold separately changes the real setup cost.

Independently tested

Evidence from an independent certification or test programme. It can be strong evidence, but only for the narrow question that programme tested.

Unknown or not established

The site does not have enough evidence to make the claim. It is a visible answer, never a blank or a guess.
